Here is her story from her wedding day that she submitted:

“My husband and I got married 23 years ago when I was 18 years old.  It was a different era then and I hadn’t yet had a chance to develop my own sense  of who I was or what my style would look like.  Weddings were not elaborate affairs and very few people had professional hair and make-up.

I graduated from highschool in June 1988 in Campbell River, BC.  My wedding was set one month later on July 30th of that same year.  My dad picked an ordered the wedding invitations and we bought everything for my wedding in one trip to Vancouver’s main street.  There was no shopping around for the perfect wedding outfit or reception outfit.  We walked into Frontier and looked at the 5 or so wedding outfits and picked one.  We then proceeded across the street and bought a gold set and bangles and called it a day.

Back in  Campbell River, I popped into the Shoppers Drug Mart and bought burgundy lipstick and nailpolish and that was the totality of my wedding makeup.  On my wedding day, my 18 old self  crowded into my parents bathroom (which consisted of a toilet and sink) and proceeded to do my own make up.  A friend came over and helped me put my hair up in a bun making sure to leave my bangs out in a messy bird’s nest type concoction.  She tied my chunni and I grabbed flowers that my dad had ordered from a local florist and off I went to get married.

My Dad had hired a professional photographer but my husband’s family didn’t have the patience to wait for the pictures because they wanted to catch the next ferry back to the mainland.  The pictures that were taken included everybody under the sun but none of just my husband and I or us with my family.  My husband’s family friend took pictures for them and there are hundreds of 5X6 pictures but none of us…lots of his family etc.

To this day, I don’t look at my wedding pictures and have not watched my own wedding video.  Even though we are a lot older, I would love to have some beautiful pictures that I would be proud to frame and place in my home.”

One Year Anniversary || Anniversary Photo-Shoot || Fort Rodd Hill

July 22, 2011

Amazing at how fast a year goes by!  This weekend, my husband & I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary!   We made it!!  Everyone told us the first year is the toughest…

My brother gave a speech at our wedding, ending with ‘Cheers to Sharon & Kal – 24/7’, as we got married on the 24th of July, well the year was just that, 24/7 of each other, of-course in a good way, the best part of being married!

We did a ‘One Year Anniversary Shoot‘ with the fabulous Jesse Holland, from Jesse Holland Photography,  at Fort Rodd Hill in Victoria, BC.  We wore our wedding outfits, which still fit us, Kal’s was loose, mine took a little more work zipping up, I did the good old, ‘jump and zip’, a few times.  Which brings me to my least favorite part of being married, gaining weight!  We eat the same, which means his portions are smaller, and mine are bigger, hence, his outfit being loose, and mine barely zipping up!  Oh.. the joys of being married!

As I work with brides, I get inspired, with new ideas, new looks, which makes me want to get married all over again (to the same guy of-course), I love everything about weddings! Outfits, jewelry, makeup, hair, photo-shoots, friends, family, gatherings, and dancing….

Happy Anniversary, Mr. Dlay, here is too many many more!
Stay tuned to the blog, as I will be blogging about our wedding, soon!

Photographer Glamour Makeover || Victoria Hair & Makeup Artist

May 19, 2011

Sharon Rai Hair & Makeup Artistry had the pleasure to work with the talented, Jessie Holland from Jesse Holland Photography.  This time instead of her taking the images, she was going to be on the other side of the lens, in a photo shoot.  Jesse, doesn’t usually wear makeup, so it was exciting to make her over!

We went with strong eyes in deep forest green shades mixed with black giving a smokey effect.  Cheeks & lips were in soft pink tones, with hair teased, in soft waves.  At the end of her style session she looked like a modern day Barbie!  Read her experience on the other side of the lens!

Her & Kevin, her husband, did an amazing job on the images, view the photo shoot.
